UGG & Choo?

This collaboration has absolutely nothing to do with Lilly Pulitzer or Village Palm. I was just so miffed by it that I couldn't resist a post. I can't wait to see what they design as a team. Fur Stilettos? That is really all I can imagine and that might be a bit scary! Actually, the new pink UGGs below would look cute with palm beach jeans and a katherine sweater. You can read more about the UGG and Jimmy Choo collaboration here http://www.instyle.com/instyle/package/general/photos/0,,20278123_20335988_20726533,00.html

Outfit of the Day - Anya Dress

We have to get a little creative with Lilly in Detroit in the winter, so I decided to wear the Anya dress today with my Society cords. I think it looks cute as a top. I like it better as a dress with gold wedge sandals, but I'll be in cold temps until winter break and I don't want to wait to wear it!
Anya Dress in Surf Blue Checking In
For those of you who do not know me, I am not a native midwesterner. I grew up in the south and lived in South Florida and Atlanta before moving to the Detroit area 5 years ago. I arrived in Detroit with enough Lilly Pulitzer outfits to clothe a small nation. One day when I was unpacking yet another wardrobe box, I did a quick calculation of roughly how many warm
days there would be in Michigan, to determine how many outfits we could wear. It was a sad day. I discovered we would have to change about 2-3 times per day, in order to wear most of our favorites! Did this stop me from buying new spring, summer or resort items? Of course not! I did slow down a bit and focus more on the fall collection, but I love warm weather and the Lilly that goes with it! I decided right then and there that I would wear it as much as possible. Break the rules! Who cares? It should be the same temperature inside year round and quite possibly it feels colder in the summer due to the air conditioning. I still go by the strict southern guidelines of "NO WHITE SHOES BEFORE EASTER AND AFTER LABOR DAY", but other than that I've thrown everything else out the window! Who needs a wardrobe of black just because it is cold and gray outside? Not I!

Outfit of the Day - With Picture!

It's a gorgeous day in Detroit today. The sun is shining and it has warmed up enough that I was able to wear a Shere sweater coat as a coat today. Usually I have to wear a coat over it!Shere sweater coat in Navy over a Lela henley in pink and my favorite Lilly embroidered jeans!
Outfit of the Day Returns
Those of you on Facebook may remember the Village Palm's Outfit of the Day posts on the Lilly Pulitzer page last fall. I have actually received several requests to bring it back! It really is fun, so I decided to make it a regular feature here! I would like to take it a step further and have guests for the outfit of the day feature. Volunteers?

You Can Wear Lilly with Black!
We spend a lot of time at the store during the fall and winter months helping people incorporate Lilly into their winter or work wardrobes. Many people do not realize how fantastic many of the Lilly prints look with black. The Elsa top is one of our favorites to wear right now with black. I am wearing the Elsa today in Pink Salmon Elite Status with a Milly skirt in black. I have to be the model today since no one else is wearing black!
Elsa Top $158

A few other Lilly & Black looks we have worn and loved this season:
Black suit with surf blue checking in murfee scarf
Black pants with Elsa top in surf blue checking in
Black sweater with society cords in surf blue checking in
Black pants with Katherine sweater in several colors & murfees
Black pants with Joy Tunic Passementerie Pink
Black boots with Goldy in falling of the grid
Black boots with Anya dress in elite status, first class & checking in
Black Shere sweater with Lela top in both white and pink

What Lilly pieces or prints have you worn with black this season?

Best Sellers this week!
The Silk Beverly Top in Grand Scale. Shown here with the Abby Cardigan and Society Cords. The Beverly has been so popular that we are almost completely sold out. I think we only have 3 left in stock! When the Beverly top arrived in the store we thought it was the perfect fit for the pink salmon society cords and meggie skirt. We were thrilled when we realized it looks just as great with hibiscus pink! It also looks great with jeans. The Reena Halter Top. I'm not really sure why Lilly is calling the Reena a halter top. It is more like a sleeveless top with a ruffle. Everyone has loved this top. I have already had to special order it in sizes that we didn't have in the store. I doubled my order, so we have plenty of sizes available now. It is shown here with a Navy Abby cardigan and a silk skirt by Look within Collection. The Reena top also looks great under a Shere or Rosemont cardigan. Try it with Palm Beach jeans or Society Cords for a more casual look.

Best Sellers from 2009 (Part 2)
I promised to reveal our best sellers from Resort 09, but it was such a fabulous collection that it was really too close to call! Honestly, everything in the collection has done really well and it would be almost impossible to post just a few items. The Cassine Vest, Katherine Cable Sweater, Lee Cashmere & Cotton Cardigan, Mainsail Fleece jacket, Overboard Hoodie Sweater and Original bags (all sizes) were most likely our most popular gift items during the holiday season. The Hobe Sound Short in Dirty Shirley sold out immediately and we re-ordered asap and still have a few pairs left in the store. We sold a lot of Petula dresses, Joy knit tunics, Swim separates, the new Hartnell skirts and Kelsea dresses. You should really try the new Kelsea dress, if you haven't already. It is very similar to the Wendy dress that Lilly used to make as a swim cover-up dress, but Lilly Lovers have always worn that as a casual dress, too. I was beyond thrilled when I saw the Kelsea in the Resort Collection.

Kelsea Dress in Coral Me Crazy $138 Joy Knit Tunic in Big Bam $98

The Joy knit tunic works just as well as a top as it does for a swim cover-up. I just love the pieces that Lilly makes that we can wear in so many ways. It is like recycling, right? Speaking of that, some of my customers are planning on wearing the Petula dress as a skirt!
I must rave about the Petula dress. I took two Petula dresses with me on a recent trip to Hawaii. I wore them constantly! They are the best for travel. Not a wrinkle! I didn't even have to plug my steamer in once! I received so many compliments on both dresses and they are so comfortable. I felt like I was wearing my night gown, but I certainly didn't look like it! The dress is very glamourous and can be dressed up or down very easily. It looks great for day with Mckims and then dress it up at night with a chunky necklace and gold wedge sandals.

Petula Dress in One of a Kind $148

And the Minnies? The Piper Fleece, Parker Vest and Arianna dress were the top sellers for holiday gifts. The Little Kelsea, Nina Tunic and Julia dress are also selling extremely well. The girls are wearing the Nina tunic with the embroidered Lilly jeans and it looks so cute. Does your Minnie have a favorite from Resort?

Snow day!

It is snowing here in Michigan today! The weather here is going to call for some serious creativity with the Lilly wardrobe for the next few months. I'll keep you posted! I ran home a little while ago and traded my ballet flats for Uggs. It might not be the cutest look, but my feet will thank me when I am cleaning my car off in the snow tonight. I would love to hear how everyone "keeps the Lilly" during winter!

Happy New Year! I'm spending this first week of 2010 wrapping up 2009 at the shop and re-stocking the store for 2010. I thought it might be fun to start my blog with some of our best sellers from 2009.

Best Selling Dress: Lilly Pulitzer's Keating dress. This dress looked great on everyone! We wore it in early fall with Mckim wedges and dressed it up with black patent heels for evening. When the weather turned cooler, we paired it with dressy black boots and loved it just as much! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this style comes back for Fall 10 in even more prints!

Keating Dress
The Sherman Tunic dress was our most popular dress from Summer 09. It can be worn as a dress or a tunic. It looks great over white or denim capris for an updated Lilly look. This style has returned in the Resort 09 collection. It is available at the Village Palm right now in 3 prints including the one shown below.

Sherman Tunic Dress

Best Selling Sweater: The Shere cashmere sweater coat was everyone's favorite. It is our go to sweater and answer to everything from jeans to dresses. We wear it with everything. Luckily for us, it came in many different colors and we had to have them all!
Shere Sweater in hibiscus pink
Our second best selling sweater was the JOY cashmere tunic. Both colors were very popular, but blue must be the most popular because it is completely sold out at our store! I wear the pink with jeans or white society cords and I love it. Both sweaters are perfect for those of us who live in colder climates. It's so nice to have cozy Lilly to wear in the winter! What were your favorite styles in 2009?
